The Natural History Museum of Crete is opening its doors to the public, as the first phase of the
renovation has been completed!
The renovation of a cultural space—especially a museum—is like a work of art in progress (ours will be completed in December 2025)!
Until then, we’re keeping our doors open and inviting you to discover: the new location of the “Dinosaurs Extreme” exhibition, which has moved to our Botanical Garden, and the Deinotherium, now relocated to the (renovated) Reception next to our (renovated) Museum Shop!
Egkelados, our earthquake simulator, is still under development (so it's temporarily unavailable…).
We are open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 18:00.

Taxonomy Recognition Day 2025: Name It to Save It!
May 23, 2025 – Every species has a story—but without a name, that story may never be told. This Taxonomy Recognition Day, a coalition of Europe’s leading natural history museums and botanical gardens is calling on the world to celebrate the science that names, classifies, and protects life on Earth.
