CV
Maria completed her studies (first degree, MSc & PhD) at the Biology department of the University of Crete. From her early years of biological studies she became interested in environmental biology and she joined the University Natural History Museum’s team. As an active member of NHMC, she participated in multiple fieldwork expeditions around Greece and in East Mediterranean countries and she helped to accumulate an important collection of animal scientific material.
Her interest in one particular group –spiders- became evident quite soon and since then, spiders keep on being the main focus and tool of her research, be it taxonomy, ecology, biogeography or even toxinology. As an Associate Professor at MBG she tries to transfer her passion for spiders to undergraduate students and to make them understand that the study of ecology and systematics may easily incorporate molecular biologists too!
