Short CV
Giannis Bolanakis finished his bachelor degree at the University of Crete (Department of Biology), in 2019. He acquired his master degree in «Environmental Biology – Management of Land & Marine Biological Resources», from University of Crete (Department of Biology), in 2021.
From the pre-graduate level he focuses his research interest in Coleoptera (and other Arthropods) of Crete (systematics, biogeography, ecology, conservation). He has participated in a plethora of samplings in Crete with various methods of trapping (fermenting traps, pitfall traps) and in continental Greece for the concentration of biological material (Arthropods).
During his pre-graduate work in the Arthropods lab of Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) he was occupied with the identification of samples of the family Cerambycidae from Greece and moreover the curating of the alcohol and dry collections of NHMC that belong to this family. He finished his bachelor thesis at the Arthropods Lab of NHMC, with subject “The Saproxylic Beetles of Crete”. During his master thesis with subject “The Endemism of Cretan Arthropods” in the Arthropods lab of NHMC he created data bases and maps for the Cretan Arthropods.
Today he is occupied with the enrichment, identification and cataloging of the Arthropods collection at NHMC, as well as the preparation of his Phd thesis.
