The multiplier events on the natural and man-made disasters that took place at the Museum of Natural History of Crete-University of Crete (MFIK-PK), October 21 & 22 2020, within the framework of the NHDPlay program, were successfully completed.
The Museum of Natural History of Crete - University of Crete launched in November 2019 a family action, “Museum’s fairy tales”. Every third Sunday of the month, parents and children, with a backdrop of an ecosystem and a brochure-guide, with their imagination as a driving
force, became aspiring writers and painters!
Our practices are biased by eons of cultural and religious traditions which regard humans as separate from Nature.
From our earliest texts (Genesis 1:28: “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”) we humans are taught that we are separate from nature.
The first meeting of CETAF in Greece was completed on Wednesday 4 October 2017, in the NHMC-UoC Exhibition Halls, with a total of 53 Managing & Scientific Executives from 33 CETAF members, representing 59 European bodies.
The Natural History Museum (University of Crete) has recently released the long-awaited book on the nature of Crete, entitled "Crete, a continent in an island" translated by Ben Petre. This publication is an essay by Dimos Tsantilis, a writer and communicator of science, in cooperation with scientists working at the museum, containing more than 350 color photographs (and drawings).
The Natural History Museum of University of Crete is celebrating this year the International Day for Disaster Reduction at its exhibition halls and at Heraklion town center. Activities will start on the 11th of October and will end on the 13th of October according to the following program:
The Natural History Museum of Crete co-organizes the Joint 9th Meeting of the Standing Committee and 19th Meeting of the Advisory Committee (StC9/AC19) of UNEP - EUROBATS.
Dinos of Patagonia exhibition will remain open until the 8th of September.
The temporary exhibition "Dinos of Patagonia in Crete" returns to the Natural History Museum of Crete οn 6th of June.

On Friday, 19th of April 2013, at Sokaras area of Gortynas Municipality, seven Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo) and two Common Kestrels (Falco tinnunculus) were successfully released into their natural habitat. The wild birds were initially sent from University of Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) to the “ANIMA” and “ALKIONI” Rehabilitation Centres for treatment and returned back to Crete healthy and strong.
On 6-8 March the International Conference on the Protection of Griffon Vultures in Cyprus was held at Hotel Elias Beach Hote in Limassol.
The Conference was attended by scientists specialized in vultures, from Cyprus and abroad, as well as representatives of government agencies and non-governmental organizations concerned about the protection of this species.
The University of Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete (UoC-NHMC) in cooperation with the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos participated in the two days festival themed “Environment-Crisis-Development”. This action was in the framework of the LIFE+ “Innovative Actions Against Illegal Poisoning in EU Mediterranean Pilot Areas” [LIFE09 NAT/ES/000533]. The festival was organized by the Ecological Movement of Mirabello on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of February 2013, in Agios Nikolaos.
The University of Crete – Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC), in cooperation with the Association of Professional Stockbreeders of Heraklion Prefecture (SEKNH), the Group of Producers Stockbreeders of Crete «Kritika Mitata» and the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece – Branch of Crete (GEOTEEPK), implemented on Wednesday 13th of February 2013 a workshop on the topic: «Stockbreeding and Biodiversity in Crete».

The Workshop organized by the Natural History of Crete and EA on Friday 25 of January 2013 was successfully completed. The attendants participated in interactive sessions and discussions, and received an extensive viewing of the exhibition and guided tour by the exhibition manager. During this, they had the chance to experience, discuss and test a specially formed educational pathway, highly adaptable to all ages.

It was prepared by GRNET and AgroKnow in the frames of Natural Europe Project (http://www.natural-europe.eu/en). The Natural History Museum of Crete, as also a partner to Natural Europe, has developed and implemented numerous educational activities, and it has also participated in this summer school.
