Photo of a Purple Heron, Ardea purpurea. This solitary and rare Heron can be observed during migration in Crete and the Aegean region, while a few pairs nest in reed-beds in the wetlands of Northern Greece. Ιt feeds in shallow water, spearing fish, frogs or insects with its long sharp bill.
