Photo of a sample of Rhodochrosite and Quartz, bought in Halkidiki in 2000. The rhodochrosite is a mineral of maganese with formula of MnCO3. It owes its name to the ancient Greek word "rhodochrous", which means pink. The crystals are rhombic. The texture is mainly spherical and the luster is vitreous. It has hardness 3.5 to 4. Here rhodochrosite coexists with pyrite in which the crystals are cubic and the yellow color of bronze.
