Photo of the Stone-Curlew, Burhinus oedicnemus. Unlike its relative species, stone-curlew occurs in more arid areas, such as fields and phrygana. It is active at night. It can be recognized by its wild shrill call. In Greece, it breeds in Crete, Lefkada, in some other Aegean islands and in parts of the coastal and lowland mainland.
