Photo of a blooming Starthistle, Centaurea raphanina subsp. raphanina, in Crete, Greece. It is a perennial small plant, endemic subspecies of Crete, Kasos and Karpathos islands, Greece. It grows mainly in rock-crevices or flat clay soil areas. Its basal leaves form a rosette and are often gathered for salads.
