Photo of the Prickly Thrift, Acantholimon echinus subsp. echinus, in bloom, on Taygetos mountain, in Peloponissos, Greece. This cushion shaped spiny shrub has small (1-2 cm) needle shaped leaves. Its flowers grow in clusters of 3-7 and have a funnelform calyx. It grows in rocky habitats at high altitudes (over 1700 m).
