Fig tree, Ficus carica

Photo of Fig tree, Ficus carica. This is a common deciduous tree in Greece, that can be found in wet rocky habitats. Unlike most plants it has a close inflorescence that evolves into a fig (Syconium). There are many cultivated varieties, that produce edible figs. Figs have been a major source of food since antiquity.
