Photo of Wild Cypress, Cupressus sempervirens f. horizontalis, at Lefka Ori mt, in Crete, Greece. Crete and the S. E. Aegean islands, are the only places in Europe where cypress is native. The native trees have horizontally spreading branches (f. horizontalis) while the ones with the ascending branches (f. sempervirens) are planted. Its cones are oblong to rounded, and become woody when ripe.
