Eleonora's Falcon, Falco eleonorae

Photo of a Eleonora's Falcon, Falco eleonorae, a migratory species which overwinters in Madagascar. It is found in coastal areas and islands of the Mediterranean basin from mid March till late October. Eleonora’s falcon is the only bird of prey that breeds in late summer, laying its eggs in August. It hunts small birds migrating over the open sea to feed its chicks. Greece hosts 85% of the global population.
