Photo of a sketch of the Black-winged Stilt, Himantopus himantopus. It is a rare breeder in some of the largest wetlands of the southern Aegean islands. Usually, it is seen as a migrant visitor even in the smallest wetlands or in the coast and sandy beaches during spring and autumn. It breeds on improvised 'islets' in the shallow waters of the salt marshes and seasonal marshes. It fails to breed during years with little rain.
