Photo of the Common Kingfisher, Alcedo atthis, which is present in the southern Aegean during winter (November-February) in coastal areas, ports and river banks. It feeds on fish, often very big for its size, and it is a very competent diver. There is a myth in Greece that this bird breeds during winter but is not true.
