Photo of a female Little Bittern, Ixobrychus minutus. It is a small characteristic heron observed during migration in the Aegean islands. Although it is a quite common species it is seldom seen, as it stays hidden among the reeds and the vegetation of river mouths and other wetlands. In places where the water is not present, it can also hide in areas with little vegetation, but enough to camouflage. It is an insectivorous and fish eating species.
