The University of Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete (UoC-NHMC) in cooperation with the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos participated in the two days festival themed “Environment-Crisis-Development”. This action was in the framework of the LIFE+ “Innovative Actions Against Illegal Poisoning in EU Mediterranean Pilot Areas” [LIFE09 NAT/ES/000533]. The festival was organized by the Ecological Movement of Mirabello on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of February 2013, in Agios Nikolaos.
Main goal was to inform the citizens and visitors of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos on the impacts of illegal use of poisoned baits on biodiversity and public health. In addition, they were acquainted with the activities of the Municipality as a member of the “European Network of Municipalities Against Illegal Poisoning” (Actions C2-D3).
In the information kiosk visitors had the chance to learn about the problems of illegal poisoning use by representatives of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos and the UoC-NHMC. Moreover, they were supplied with information material and were given the opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts on the reduction and/or elimination of the illegal use of poisoned baits.
